Ulcus Cruris (Leg and Foot Ulcer) |
|
Ulcus
Cruris is an ulceration of the lower leg that is caused by chronic
venous or arterial insufficiency or has a neurotrophic origin.
Ulcus Cruris present as deep non-healing wounds on the lower leg,
calf, foot and heel. The skin is thin and compromised and very prone
to braking down even after a minute trauma or external pressure.
Often several small ulcers break out close by and soon fuse to form a
large ulceration that spreads over a sizeable area. Ulcus Cruris is
exacerbated by underlying chronic diabetes, which is well known for
healing disturbances.
The
ulceration is usually painful and very difficult to heal. In addition
to the pain and discomfort, it also causes a great deal of distress
to the sufferers and especially to people with diabetes experiencing
healing disturbances. In many people, the non-healing ulceration
leads to serious complications and even to leg or foot amputations.
The end result is impaired mobility, loss of independence and
diminished quality of life.
Laser
phototherapy is very effective in the treatment and management of leg
and foot ulcers. The energy delivered by the laser light maximises
blood flow and improves micro circulation. There actions have
positive and accelerating effects on the speed of healing and also
boost the immune system. Swelling, congestion and pain reduce.
Laser
phototherapy represents a natural, gentle and safe, but very
effective therapeutic addition to the portfolio of therapies offered
