Bursitis

Print
Bursitis is an inflammation of one or more bursae, the small fluid-filled sacs that reduce friction around the joints. Bursitis can be caused by infection in the fluid or by repetitive movements, injuries or crystal deposits around the joint. Bursitis can affect any joint, but is most common at the elbow, shoulder, knee and ankle. The chances of developing bursitis are higher in people with jobs or hobbies involving repetitive movements, such as golf or tennis. Additionally, the risk of developing bursitis increases with age. Symptoms of bursitis include severe pain, inflammation, swelling and difficulties with movements.
